Sotogrande, the largest privately owned residential development in Andalusia, Spain, was originally established as a gated community but has since evolved into an open resort within the municipality of San Roque. Situated 25 kilometers northeast of Gibraltar, on the western Costa del Sol, Sotogrande spans 25 km², stretching from the Mediterranean Sea into the foothills of Sierra Almenara.

The area surrounding Sotogrande boasts spectacular landscapes, ranging from the coastal charm of Sotogrande Costa to the elegant golf communities of San Roque and the picturesque cork forests of the Sierra Almenara.

Located at the western end of the Costa del Sol, Sotogrande offers easy access to the beautiful beaches of Tarifa, the Alcornocales Natural Park, and Gibraltar.

Renowned for its sophisticated yet relaxed lifestyle amidst stunning surroundings and a mild Mediterranean climate, Sotogrande was developed in the 1960s, inspired by the style of Palm Springs. It has gained recognition as an architectural showcase on the Costa del Sol, featuring a diverse range of styles from traditional Andalusian to modern and unconventional designs. Considered one of the most luxurious residential areas in Europe, Sotogrande was developed under strict building regulations, ensuring the preservation of its natural beauty and maintaining low building density. Tarifa, famous for its beaches, kite-surfing, and relaxed atmosphere, is only a short drive away.

The "Mercado Historico de Sotogrande" (Historical Market Sotogrande), an up-market antiques and craft market, takes place every Sunday morning at the Ribiera del Marlin near Sotogrande Marina.

The Sotogrande Music Festival summer concert series takes place every summer in the grounds of the Santa Maria Polo Club, Los Pinos fields.

Sotogrande is located at the western end of the Costa del Sol in the Cadiz province and within the municipal district of San Roque.

Sotogrande is approximately a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Málaga Airport via the AP-7 motorway. It is also about a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Jerez Airport and 25 minutes from Gibraltar Airport.

There are two access points to Sotogrande Costa from the A-7 coastal highway.

While there are bus routes from Estepona, having a car is essential for getting around Sotogrande. Sotogrande is on the Estepona to La Linea (for Gibraltar) M130 bus route, approximately one hour after Estepona departure times. The bus stops are located in the village of Pueblo Nuevo and at the estate entrance at A-7 km 129 on Calle Avenida de Paniagua.

As elsewhere on the Costa del Sol, healthcare services in Sotogrande are well-established and provide a very high level of medical care, ranging from clinics and pharmacies to dentists and highly qualified, specialized doctors.

Once you become a resident of Spain or start contributing to the Spanish social security system, you will be entitled to free healthcare through the network of Centros de Salud and hospitals.

The closest state hospitals are Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella and Hospital La Linea de la Concepcion. Humanline Sotogrande is a day-care hospital providing services ranging from general to specialized medicine, particularly orthopedic surgery and traumatology. The medical center is located in Sotogrande’s Centro Comercial Sotomarket and is easily accessible, with ample parking.

The private hospitals closest to Sotogrande are situated in Los Barrios and Estepona (Hospital Quiron and Hospital Hospiten Estepona).

In Sotogrande and the surrounding area, there are various international and local private schools, along with state schools. Admission to state schools usually depends on the student's residential address.

One of the best and highly recommended private schools in Southern Spain is the International School in Sotogrande (SIS). With students from over 40 different nationalities, the school offers high-quality learning in English for students between 3-18 years old. Sotogrande International School is one of the only International Baccalaureate (IB) schools in Spain. With this double degree, students are well-prepared to study in national and international universities. It is the only English-speaking international school on the Costa del Sol to offer a boarding option.

Other very good schools in the surrounding area and San Roque are the Colegio Público Carteia, Colegio Público Santa María Coronada, Colegio Público Maestro Apolinar, and the Colegio Público Gabriel Arenas.
