Ideally located between the popular towns of Marbella and Fuengirola, Riviera del Sol is a small area west of La Cala that is largely inhabited by expats and foreign residents.
This peaceful and attractive residential area offers a quaint lifestyle under the sun, including a nice selection of bars and restaurants, a charming stretch of beach nearby, state-of-the-art sports facilities, shops and exceptional nearby golf courses.
The appeal of Rivera del Sol to many is that it is conveniently located in the middle of the Costa del Sol, with Malaga airport on one end and Puerto Banus and San Pedro on the other. Residents of the area can therefore enjoy both spectrums of life on the Coast, varying from the traditional Spanish villages closer to Malaga to the cosmopolitan vibrant areas of Marbella.
Residents of Riviera del Sol are a short drive away from the shops and restaurants of the charming town centre in La Cala as well as the bustling Mediterranean atmosphere of Fuengirola, Torremolinos and Benalmadena. Conversely, Marbella's famous Old Town and the glamorous marina of Puerto Banus can also be reached within 15 minutes by car.
Riviera del Sol also benefits from an elevated terrain and therefore enjoys stunning views of the Mediterranean and the sprawling coastline at its feet.
Riviera del Sol has its own golf course, golf school tennis club, lawn bowls, numerous golf courses and many other sports facilities are within 10 minutes' drive.
Miraflores Golf, right in the heart of Riviera del Sol, offers some spectacular sea views and is a very popular course amongst residents and tourists alike.
Other sports and leisure facilities include the Aztek Club (tennis, badminton, Olympic sized swimming pool, gym, Club del Sol (12 excellent tennis courts) and Miraflores Bowls Club.
The new Riviera Plaza Commercial Centre sits in the heart of the small town and forms most of the areas social and commercial hub, offering a variety of excellent cafes, restaurants, shops and offices. Breakfast in the sun can be enjoyed at numerous charming local establishments and a myriad of cuisines are served in the many restaurants along this strip.
A brand new promenade on the beach now also connects most parts of the Costa del Sol for bikers and hikers. The newest part of this beautifully built promenade now links Riviera del Sol with La Cala – perfect for a sunny morning or afternoon walk!
La Cala, about 5 minutes away, offers pure Mediterranean feeling: vibrant market days, typical Spanish tapas bars and chiringuitos (the beach side fish restaurants) offer the opportunity for revellers to enjoy life under the sun to the fullest!
Riviera del Sol is very easy accessible from the main coast road (N340) as well as the toll road (A7). With its ideal location right in the heart of the Costa del Sol, all main areas are within one hour radius by car.
Málaga airport, connecting the coast with all major cities of the country and many international airports can be reached in only 45 minutes.
For those who prefer public transport will have no problem either. There are a number of bus stops on the Riviera del Sol stretch and bus routes run regularly to all other towns and areas of the coast.
Another, very healthy form of transport is becoming more and more popular: the bicycle. With the new stretch of the beach promenade between Riviera del Sol and La Cala now completed, this is also great way to get around on the sunny coast.
As a Spanish resident you will be able to benefit from the excellent Spanish Health Care network via the country's Social Security system.
Alternatively there are plenty of private health insurance providers, including Mapfre, Cesar and Sanitas that offer very reasonable health packages.
There are a number of public and private doctors and clinics in Riviera del Sol and the neighbouring communities of La Cala and Calahonda.
The Costa del Sol hospital, one of the largest and best in the area, is located just 10 minutes away from Riviera del Sol with many more health care facilities available in nearby Marbella.
Apart from the sunny climate, relaxed lifestyle and pleasant people, Spain is also a place where children and youngsters play a very important part society. Therefore a large effort is made on both the public and the private sector to provide a high standard of education.
Nursery schools and private primary and secondary schools are located all within a short drive. One of the best known international schools on the coast, the English International School (EIC), is only 15 minutes away.
Public Spanish Schools can be found in La Cala providing free bus services to students coming from outside of La Cala.
