Tourism brings €3 billion to Andalucían economy in first quarter of 2017

International tourism contributed a record-breaking 3 billion euros to the region of Andalucía in the first quarter of 2017.

The figure, published by the National Statistics Institute, confirms the incredible allure the southern Spanish region continues to have on the international stage. Accumulative data between January and April of this year shows a 15.1% increase on the same period last year, placing Andalucía third in terms of money made from foreign tourists, behind Catalonia and the Canary Islands, in first and second place respectively.

Tourists spend an average of 8.5 days in the region, placing Andalucía second in terms of the length of stay. And despite Brexit, spending by Brits increased by 7.7% in April compared to last year. At a national level, tourism brought in a record-breaking 77 billion euros to the Spanish economy last year. The latest data shows a year-on-year increase in foreign tourism of almost 20%, with a gross amount exceeding 20 billion euros just up until April.
