Top 6 Coastal Hubs on the Costa del Sol

Whether you are looking to plan a visit or invest in a property on the Costa del Sol, there are a number of key areas we recommend you consider.

Benalmadena Costa

One of the most diverse and popular towns on the Coast, Benalmadena covers an area of almost 30km2 and has approximately 30,000 residents. Just a minute drive from Malaga airport, Benalmadena Costa enjoys a privileged position and has expanded rapidly over the last 20 years to become one of the most popular destinations in the region. The area offers a choice of different lifestyles, a mild year-round temperature and a light sea breeze. Owing to its location, its many charming local bars and restaurants, new up-market establishments and its developed infrastructure, Benalmadena has surged in popularity among property developers in recent years and now offers an array of stunning properties, including new developments and bargain properties.

Casares

Formerly a less popular area on the Costa del Sol, Casares has relatively recently situated itself as a prime location for property buyers, with a 70.5% year-on-year sales volume increase from 2016 to 2017, the biggest percentage increment in home purchases of any other neighbouring area. "Where the mountains meet the sea", Casares offers an outstanding location for beach and golf lovers, with still affordable real estate prices and a number of new development projects underway.

Estepona

Estepona is widely known in the region as a popular area that offers an outstanding quality of life. Owing to its blue flag beaches, a wide range of local and international cuisine options, as well as an array of cosy and inexpensive cafes and bars, up-market restaurants, beach bars and a charismatic old town. 2018 saw a 26.6% year-on-year increase in home purchases, as well as an impressive 370% increase in building licenses, including a new luxury development, signalling a notable uptick in popularity for real estate in the area.

Fuengirola

Nestled between Benalmadena and La Cala, Fuengirola has become an intricate beachfront metropolis offering an array of shopping centres, cinemas, department stores, supermarkets, sports and leisure centres, a water park and a zoo. With a 288% rise in building licenses for new residential projects, the area seems to be undergoing a renaissance of sorts attracting both national and international buyers, as well as holidaymakers from all corners of the globe year-round.

Marbella

Known worldwide for its miles of beautiful sandy beaches and upmarket establishments, Marbella has been the most popular destination on the Costa del Sol since the early 1950's. Located right on the coast and protected by the Sierra Blanca mountains and the iconic La Concha peak, Marbella enjoys a "micro-climate" that gives it its beautiful warm weather, with an average annual temperature of around 19 degrees, reaching the 30’s during the summer months. Property prices in Marbella have increased by 30% since the property market began its recovery and continues to surge in demand among investors.

Mijas Costa

The municipal district is comprised of three very different areas, Mijas Pueblo, a charming mountaintop village, Las Lagunas a modern residential and commercial area, and Mijas Costa, a 12 kilometre coastal stretch of modern infrastructure and residential developments. Located between Fuengirola and Marbella, Mijas Costa is a popular centre point for locals and tourists alike, with plenty of recreation and entertainment facilities, including beach, wine and cocktails bars and nightclubs.
