Spanish Property Sales Transactions Rise by 13.2% in September

In September, Spanish property sales figures showed a 13.2 per cent growth, bringing the running 12 month sales to 400,000 in Spain.

Spain's central statistics unit published the latest sales figures showing registered sales transactions in Spain were 13.2% higher than last year, at 34,931. The figure maintains the sustained recovery which began over two and a half years ago when demand returned to the market following a significant slump in the market that began in late 2007.

Property sales transactions have now registered year-on-year increases in 28 of the last 30 months, and the level of activity within the property market has gradually reached normal levels once again. The cumulative total after nine months of 2016 comes to a total of 311,000 property transactions, representing an increase of 14.6% in comparison to the same period last year. The running 12-monthly total has risen by 13.2% since September 2015 to 395,000, the highest it has been since July 2011.

The recovery in property transactions is not consistent across the country, as demand continues to be stronger in some areas of Spain than in others. Sales figures fell in three of Spain’s 17 regions, Murcia (-15.9%), La Rioja (-6.2%) and the Basque Country (-2.2%), while increases of over 20% were registered in Madrid, Catalunya, Cantabria and the Balearic Islands.

Spanish municipals that registered the highest levels of sales transactions in terms of sales per 100,000 inhabitants, were once again the Comunidad Valenciana (133), following by the Balearics (125), Madrid, and Andalucia and Catalunya (all over 100). The transaction levels compare to a national average of 95 sales per 100,000 inhabitants of buying age.
