Spain faces Great Britain in the Davis Cup tournament in Marbella this weekend

The Davis Cup will be held at the Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella on Friday at 11am. Marking one of the most prestigious events on the annual tennis calendar, it will be the third time it is hosted in Marbella since 2009 and the first time in Spain since 2013, when it was hosted in Madrid’s Caja Magica.

The Davis Cup is an annual tennis tournament featuring some of the world’s best tennis-playing nations.

Facing team Britain will be Spaniard Feliciano López, ranked 37th in the world. The contest will be the first meeting between Spain and Great Britain in the Davis Cup since 1986, when the British team won 4-1 at the same stage of the competition on home soil in Telford.

The Costa del Sol has not hosted such a popular sporting event since the World Transplant Games in 2017 in Malaga, and the tournament is expected to draw a large turnout of tennis fans and spectators from both the Spanish and British camp.
