The Costa del Sol is known for its thriving tourism industry, and most sectors of employment in the region are directly or indirectly influenced by the influx of visitors over the summer months.

The Institute of National Statistics released a statement recently confirming record breaking overnight stays between June and September of this year. Over 25 million overnight stays were made throughout the Andalucían region during this period, up by 1.6% from the year before. In a statement, the Andalucían tourism minister, Francisco Javier Fernandez said "This figure means that employment is not threatened outside of high season. Now we are going to make an effort to ensure that this keeps going in October and November, up until the Christmas season."

New figures also show a 7% increase in the number of Britons holidaying in the region, harnessing 7.15 billion euros for the Spanish economy. Additional visitors from Scandinavia and Germany helped boost employment by 8% in the region.

The forecasts for the tourism sector remain positive across the board with further room for growth outside of peak months, providing lucrative opportunities for buy-to-let investors on the Costa del Sol.
