Marbella to host the Davis Cup in February 2018

Marbella will host the first round of the Davis Cup between Spain and Great Britain in February of next year.

The famous tennis tournament will take place at the Puente Romano Tennis Club between February 2-4. It will be the third time it is hosted in Marbella since 2009 and the first time in Spain since 2013, when it was hosted in Madrid’s Caja Magica.

The February contest will be the first meeting between Spain and Great Britain in the Davis Cup since 1986, when the British team won 4-1 at the same stage of the competition on home soil in Telford.

Selected by the RFET Board of Directors in Zaragoza, Marbella was in close competition with Granada to host the tournament this year.

The Mayor of Marbella, Angeles Muñoz released a statement thanking citizens and institutions of Marbella for their support saying, "we have a magnificent city and we have shown that we have enough experience to organise events of a scale such as the Davis Cup."

Marbella Council has also reportedly proposed the extension of the Puente Romano grandstand prior to the event, in order to accommodate 9,000 fans.

The event will likely draw further attention to an area on the Costa del Sol that is already in very high demand amongst property buyers and real estate developers. According to latest forecasts, property sales transactions and prices will continue to rise in 2018, creating an opportune time to invest in a Spanish property on the Costa del Sol now.
