Tony-nominated actor Antonio Banderas will bring the Broadway classic 'A Chorus Line' to Spain this October. Announcing casting calls in February of this year, the production will be the inaugural show of his new 900-seat theatre, Teatro del Soho Caixabank situated in his hometown of Malaga.
With rehearsals well under way, the Spanish actor is co-directing and appearing in the theatre's inaugural season opening on October 18th. The Teatro del Soho CaixaBank will host the production until the beginning of 2020 and will then tour to Madrid and Barcelona. Banderas has also hinted to the press that the production may make an appearance in the United States, but the final details are yet to be confirmed.
Banderas will play Zach, the character who directs the audition that forms the basis of the storyline in the show. The actor is co-directing th e production with the New York actor and choreographer Baayork Lee, who participated in the creation of the original Chorus Line in 1975 and was the director of the last revival on Broadway.
Banderas' production will be bilingual, with texts in Spanish a nd songs in English, and marks the beginning of an exciting time for theatre in Spain's popular coastal city, ranking among the top 10 cities in Spain for culture.
